3rd event out in my SCCA SSC prepped Subaru BRZ. Last event I felt the car was all over the place as far as handling (understeer & oversteer). Some faster drivers in the sport noted that the front bar should be set to full stiff because of the SSC suspension setup along with the front suspension being macpherson struts vs double wishbone. It was also mentioned that a smoother driving style is needed with an SSC car.
I contemplated stiffening up the front bar as suggested but I was reluctant to because the last run last week felt great by simply making tire pressure changes. So for this event I wanted to build off of that and see where I could take it with tire psi changes along with slight rebound changes and hopefully somewhat smoother driving(I'm not known for smooth driving). I'll eventually go full stiff on front bar to experience it.
The car felt much better today with the higher tire pressures all around, BUT, I've also been told by some of the SSC locals that the ambient temps being in the low to mid 50's were/are great for the Falkens. They've already noticed that during the cooler days the tires worked much better than on the warmer days(even when spraying after first run, and single driver). So, not 100% sure what contributed to the car feeling great today but nonetheless I'll take it.
Next weekend is the SCCA New Jersey ProSolo and the ambient temps look to be anywhere from 10-20 degrees warmer than this weekend.
Going to take today's settings and start with them next weekend and take it from there.
Ended the day with the last run being my fastest raw, apparently nicked a cone somewhere....I didn't hear any, didn't think I hit any, but don't really care.
I also tried a different front video mount location using a GoPro I just picked up from Steve. Love where it's mounted because it's inside the car for ease of reach if needed but I realized now when reviewing those vids at home that I need to angle the camera a bit lower to get more of the hood into the frame. This is so that there's more room to overlay the rear view camera footage over the hood instead of over most of the course ahead.
